Emergency Dental Clinic and Treatments in San Antonio

During the COVID-19 outbreak in San Antonio, TX, Dr. Bec is transforming his Oral Surgery Focused General Dentistry Practice, Alamo Dental Health, into an Emergency Dental Clinic. When virtually all dental clinics are closed, He will remain open to apply his surgical and root canal treatment skills to deliver urgent dental care to patients in pain and suffering from oral infections. Being San Antonio’s go-to Emergency Dentist, Dr. Bec provides dental emergency services to both existing and new patients suffering from toothaches, dental abscess, and other painful oral conditions.

Dr. Bec, a general private practice dentist in San Antonio, is skilled to diagnose and treat many dental emergencies. Most patients who experience tooth pain are in great need of urgent dental care, dental extractions and root canal treatments being the most common types of treatment.

What is defined as a Dental Emergency?

American Dental Association defines dental emergencies are potentially life threatening and require immediate treatment to stop ongoing tissue bleeding, alleviate severe pain or infection. Such conditions include:
  • Uncontrolled bleeding post tooth extraction or any other oral surgery procedures
  • Cellulitis or a diffuse soft tissue bacterial infection with intra-oral or extra-oral swelling that potentially compromise the patient’s airway
  • Trauma involving facial bones, potentially compromising the patient’s airway

Emergency dentists, like Dr. John Bec, provide dental emergency care by focusing immediate attention on the management of these conditions to relieve severe pain and/or risk of infection. Here are the most common types of urgent care:

  • Root Canal Treatment to stop Severe dental pain from pulpal inflammation or toothache
  • Pericoronitis (around the crown of the tooth) or third-molar pain
  • Surgical post-operative osteitis (inflammation of the jaw bone)
  • Dry socket dressing changes
  • Dental Abscess, or localized bacterial dental infection resulting in localized pain and swelling.
  • Tooth fracture resulting in pain or causing soft tissue trauma
  • Dental trauma with avulsion/luxation (tooth loss or tooth mobility)
  • Dental treatment required prior to critical medical procedures
  • Final crown/bridge cementation if the temporary restoration is lost, broken or causing gingival irritation
Other types of dental emergency care also includes:
  • Extensive dental caries or defective restorations causing pain and managed with interim restorative techniques (temporary fillings) when possible (silver diamine fluoride, glass ionomers)
  • Suture removal
  • Denture adjustment on radiation/oncology patients
  • Denture adjustments or repairs when function impeded
  • Replacing temporary filling on endo access openings in patients experiencing pain
  • Snipping or adjustment of an orthodontic wire or appliances piercing or ulcerating the oral mucosa

For more information on what emergency dentists are recommended to treat during the COVID-19 outbreak, visit ADA’s website.

What is not defined as Urgent Dental Care?

Routine or non-dental emergency procedures do not typically get treated in an Emergency Dental Clinic. Such procedures include but are not limited to:
  • Initial or periodic oral examinations and recall visits, including routine radiographs
  • Routine dental cleaning and preventive therapies
  • Orthodontic procedures other than those to address acute issues (e.g. pain, infection, trauma)
  • Extraction of asymptomatic teeth
  • Restorative dentistry including treatment of asymptomatic carious lesions
  • Aesthetic dental procedures

How soon can you be seen?

Where are we located?

Dr. Bec is located near San Antonio’s Medical Center in the Canavan Center Building B. Located on Wurzbach Road between Interstate I-10 and Fredericksberg Bldv, he are easily reachable by patients living as far as Pleasanton, TX to North San Antonio. Check out directions to our office.

How much does it cost?

The cost of urgent dental care (emergency dental care) varies based on the treatment rendered and is usually between $150 and $1,500. To find out what is going on and how it needs to be treated, an examination is necessary. The cost of a dental emergency examination is $160 and includes:

  • Office Visit fee and
  • 2 (Periapical and Bitewing) intra-oral radiographs fee.

Some patients will require additional diagnostic services, the most common being the 3-D x-ray (CBCT x-ray). The fee for such radiograph is $275.

Note to patients with dental insurance: (Alamo Dental Health accepts and bills most PPO dental insurances and you will be reimbursed the insurance company’s allowable charges. Each insurance sets their own fees and therefore it is nearly impossible to be able to give the exact amount you will be reimbursed. It is safe to predict that most insurance companies reimburse between 70%-100% of the fees our office charges.)

If you are experiencing a dental abscess, toothache or any other type of condition listed on this page and believe you need to seek urgent dental care, call our office immediately at 210-691-1211 and request an Emergency Consultation.

Extremely friendly staff! I went in for an exam and cleaning. I am very pleased with my experience from start to finish. Liz did the cleaning on my teeth. I have anxiety around cleanings, she made sure I was comfortable the entire time. She kept a conversation going, it completely eased my anxiety. Thank you!

High Level of Care

I came to Alamo Dental Health because of Groupon but will be making them "my dentist" because of the level of care. The doctor and staff were thorough and professional; I felt they cared for me as a person and a patient. After dentist hopping for the last two years I am glad to have found Alamo Dental Health. I highly recommend them!

Straightforward and Knowledgable

Dr. Bec was very friendly and answered all my questions in a straightforward manner, so it was one of the few times I didn't feel awkward about asking about my dental concerns. The staff was very friendly also.
I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you are on the hunt (like I was) for a new dentist.
